Cancelling the Mountains

The wondrous Wonder House Coliving

Wonder House had been on my radar for a while. I’d heard stories about it — the community, the parties. I was curious and unconvinced in equal measure, which is roughly my default setting.

So I was glad to get a day there and see a fraction of the place for myself.

The plan

The next morning came with a familiar question: straight to the finish, or one more stop?

I went with the stop. Found a nice, cheap place just before Valencia, booked it, and then noticed it was in the mountains.

I do not enjoy climbing narrow streets unless it’s strictly necessary.

So: bags packed, target in the navigation, high five for my mate at the coliving, Instagram handles swapped with new friends, and off.

Changing plans on the way

On the road — mostly motorway this time, because in this part of Spain at least it’s free — one question started hammering away: what if I simply don’t want to go to the mountains?

Halfway there I checked the cancellation policy, found a nice place near the sea, booked the new one, cancelled the mountain climb, and carried on. Towards the sea. Again.

Last pit stop before the finish

The last stop was Burriana, just short of Valencia. Burriana beach, to be precise, which is a kilometer or two from the actual town.

Compared to Argelès-sur-Mer, there is nothing happening here off season. Most bars and restaurants were shut. There was, mercifully, a decent supermarket for the basics.

And a beach. And the sea. And a good view.

Good enough for the last night of the trip.
