Palma de Mallorca: a two-star love story

A story in three acts: hope, comfort, and then the bit where it all falls apart.

I booked a coliving in Palma for one month. Liked it so much I extended by another three. Then got asked to leave after six weeks. A romantic comedy where the house breaks up with you.

The setup was good. A pleasantly less-touristy location, which in Mallorca means you can walk 200 metres without being offered a sangria bucket. A well-kept building with a few quirks. A coworking area that got noisy, as coworking areas do.

The people were the good part. Around 13 rooms, enough space for different personalities to coexist without anyone hiding in their bedroom from small talk. If you ever go, try to get one of the two smaller rooms — the quietest in the house. And the community manager was fantastic. Not the owner. That distinction matters.

Because then it went wrong. The stay ended in an unfortunate situation, the kind that tests whether a company stands behind its product or just behind its Terms & Conditions. The communication with the owners afterwards was, generously, poor.

So: great location, solid building, wonderful people, two stars. Like watching someone trip at the finish line of a race they were winning by a mile.
